Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I read/write tabs?
  • How do I view .btab files?
.btab files are simply normal text files. You can use any text viewer (Windows Notepad, for example) or even open them in a word processor (such as Microsoft Word). Essentially, they are just .txt files with a different extension.
  • Can you get/send me this tab?
You can enter requests using the Requests Page, however tabs will not be directly emailed to users. Any fulfilled requests will be added to the archive in the next update.
  • How often is the archive updated?
The archive is updated as often as I can find the time. Please understand that the BTA is a free service maintained in my spare time. I do the best that I can, but there may be lags in updates from time to time.
  • How do I submit a tab to the archive?
Follow the submission guidelines listed here. If you enjoy tabbing, consider joining the Bass Tab Archive Tabbing Army to help fulfil users' requests.
  • What program should I use to write a bass tab?
The answer varies based on personal preference. I just use Windows Notepad to write tabs. However, there are many good software applications that help you create good looking tab. Check out the software section.
  • Will you add a link to my website?
I will only link to websites that I feel will be useful to bass players. This rules out most personal home pages or band web pages. If you think your site is link-worthy, email links@basstabarchive.com.
  • Can i get a zip file of the entire archive?
Sorry...bandwidth restrictions prevent me from putting such a large file up for download.
